Wow. It's 5:30am. About two hours early for me. The hub left an hour ago for the airport. Our airport is 2.5 hours away, so an early morning flight really is an EARLY flight!! I'm catching up on all my blogging since I can't sleep now! It's 30 degrees outside this morning, damn chilly! I added a few more photo's to the Jones Soda Gallery! I actually found Jones Soda at WallyWorld! I had never even heard of it! I was really excited then that there was a possibility that I could have a photo on a bottle of soda here in town!! (or thereabouts) I thought I'd give Brock a claim to fame since Taylor is already there. Most of my friends have now seen Taylor in the magazine, and want autographed photos, her signature, not mine!! Go figure! Where's that inkpad? Think she'll hold still?
I took more photo's yesterday of some ducks and elk..will get them on here later. OH, and I will take house photos, but of course I have to CLEAN it first!! I can't let ya'll see how messy I am!!
Ok I'm outta here for now.......Ya'll have a great day! I bet it will be warmer then mine! TTFN
Monday, April 18
Here's our hot tub! This is pretty SweeeeeT. As you can see it took up that whole part of the deck. (No there's not that much snow now, old pic)
Well we did our trip to Wallyworld yesterday. It actually was ok! We went early, I guess before all the scary people dredge themselves out of bed, and hardly anyone was there! I still came upon a few "mini" meetings in the aisles, but I just stand there and stare at them until they move.
We then went to Home Depot (yeah!) and bought a rug for our living room. We had recently put pergo floors in our house and without a rug Brock can move our furniture to his liking. So, we went to buy a rug. Of course the rug I wanted, and happens to match my couch PERFECTLY!!!, was in the back on a very high shelf, so needless to say it took some guy going to get the little truck thing that raises up to get it. THEN, the truck broke down, so they had to take that in the back and fix it. THEN, start again on trying to get the rug down. We waited I bet an hour for all of that, but we started browsing to kill the time. (This was the fun part!)
We went into the kitchen section and started talking about redoing our counter tops to granite, and adding some neat tiles to that area under your cabinets but above the counter. It was really fun picking stuff and just imagining how it would look! Then off to the bathroom stuff. We've been threatening putting in a jetted tub, and redoing the ugly vinyl floor that's in there. So, We found a tub we really like, and then some flooring that we like either tile, or stone..something like that. Now, don't get me wrong, we really do have a beautiful home and I'm not complaining (much) but a bachelor built this house, so it lacks a little originality and color. PLUS, he did all bathroom and kitchen floors in WHITE! Can you imagine how long (NOT) the floors stay clean? With a hubby and a 100# dog? It drives me crazy! Remember, there is not one road in our town that isn't dirt.
The first thing we did was take out all carpet. That was insane. I bought a steamcleaner and still couldn't keep the carpets clean. We put vinyl downstairs and pergo up. It still gets dusty and you can see every footprint, but it's cleaner and healthier than carpet. I bought a steamer that you push across the pergo floors and it cleans them right up. At least until Brock or the Hub decides to come in from outside.
We also want to extend our deck. We have an awesome deck, but part of it is like sidewalk width, and then it gets really big. Well, we put a hottub on the big part, so it doesn't leave much room for a table, or chairs, ya know that kind of stuff. So, that's another project we've discussed. THEN, we have a pond on our property so we would like to build some kind of gazebo like thing out there with a pier so we can sit out there, roof over our head, little fire pit and just enjoy!!
I will put a few pics on here to give ya'll some ideas what we are working with. Anyway, I can't wait!! I think the bathroom will be first. I will do some before & after's just for fun.
Okay, the sun came out finally so I think I will do a few things outside. TTFN!
"You can plant in a child’s mind flowers or you can plant weeds. You can give them the materials to plant a garden or leave them with only a wasteland. Teachers and parents should always plant good seeds, and spread just enough manure for something extraordinary to grow..."
I'm reading this book called "The Moon Watcher's Companion" and it has a neat poem I wanted to share with you....
The Moon has a face like the clock in the hall She shines on thieves on the garden wall On streets and fields and harbor quays And birdies asleep in the forks of trees.
The squalling cat and the squeaking mouse The howling dog by the door of the house The bat that lies in bed at noon All love to be out by the light of the Moon.
But all of the things that belong to the day Cuddle to sleep to be out of her way And flowers and children close their eyes Till up in the morning the sun shall rise.
I've been having too much fun with photography this week. With the Jones Soda Contest, and then I entered Thursday Theme, and Photo Friday. I'm loving this!
I won glass art from Troy & Danielle and The Artful Blogger this week, can't wait to get both! I'm going to try to figure out a way to put the glass art in my windows...I'll have to look for suction cups today. Oh yeah, I have to go to Walmart today :o(. I hate going to Walmart. We had this discussion on Greekchickie's blog yesterday. It's so crowded and everyone has "mini" meetings in the aisles and won't let you by! Hate it! I'm always crabby when I leave Walmart and I'm not naturally a crabby person. Walmart brings out the evil in me! Actually it doesn't, but it does make me a little crabby and I never want to go back. But *sigh* it has what I need!
Okay I've done it!! I entered some photo's in the Jones Soda Contest!(www.Jonessoda.com)I think you have to go into the photo gallery area first. I don't know how to link it to here, but just search under "Leesa" if you want to vote!! I also put my votes in for Laura and Troy! I'm such a huge B&W fan that it was fun entering those! It's been pretty uneventful around here since the Hub left for CA. It's been cooler than I had hoped for, I'm so ready to spend some time outside and garden!! All the cats are healthy again, so yeah for me! I've been trying to catch pictures of the wood ducks out in the pond, they are so beautiful, and they always hear me coming!! I think I'm going to have to get a deer blind (is that right?) dress in camo, hide and wait!! It's just like the Heron's here, you just can't make a move or they are outta here. I'm supposed to be working on an assignment that I have been putting off. I'm a member at Betterphoto.com and I signed up for a class on Photoshop. The first assignment is turning photo's into watercolor paintings. Sounded easy enough, but when I got the instructions on how they want me to do it, they don't come out right!! It's due on the 17th, I have to have three "before and after" entries and I've only gotten one done! Aaaaccckk. I will have to do that tonight! Oh and if you like to see fun photo's check out www.Betterphoto.com and look under contest entries. They have some of the funnest photo's on there sometimes! I did finally decide to NIX the TX trip until at least Fall. I am going to go to CA with my hubby when he furnishes his new house. He got a brand new convertible mustang, so I think I will be doing some beach cruisin'! Can't wait! I will definitely be taking some photo's to share with you! In case there is any confusion, my hubby ain't leavin me........he trains residents in his specialty of Emergency & Critical Care, the residents are all in 3 year programs, sooooo...he will be working in CA for at least the next three years. So, he's renting a house and leasing a car. Great vacation getaway anytime I want!! Oh and he's only gone Tues-Fri each week. It was wierd to get used to at first, but I'm used to it now. I feel I have the best of both worlds, married life and single life. I have plenty of me time and it's great! But, there are those times when crazy things happen and he's out of town, but I guess that's life! Ok, I've got many animals to feed.......TTFN!
The last few days have just been a whirlwind! The hubby works 4 days in CA, and comes home for 3. Those 3 days are always so full and go by so fast. I hardly even touched the blog! I did however get some good pictures in this week, I'm including one of Brock behind some firewood. I thought it had the perfect "Who's There?" look to it. It's snowing today, and pretty chilly. We had a good weekend though, sunny and clear for most of it. The Hub went fishing at least once so that's a good thing! All kitties are back to "mostly" normal, so that's even better. I'm trying to plan a trip back to TX to visit family and friends but I've waited a little late and now it's already getting hot. I hate HOT. You'd think I'd be used to it since I grew up there but I'm not. I went two years ago in June and thought I was going to die! It makes me so crabby to be that hot! And Humid! Yuck. I might have to postpone until fall. I'm also trying to plan a trip to CA with the Hub, he's furnishing an apartment while he works there for the next three years, so I'm going with to help the poor man pick out furnishings and necessities. THEN, we're going to Atlanta in September for a veterinary conference. It's not as easy for me to travel because I have to find a house/pet sitter. I had no problems with that in TX, there were people all over to do it for me, but here is a bit different! I do have a neighbors daughter who has done it for me in the past, and she loves the animals and they love her so we've been lucky. She's threatening going to college, so I might be in trouble! How dare her think of her future instead of my traveling needs!! (kidding, of course) We still haven't even tried to plan a real vacation. I would love to go to Italy, the Hub wants to go to Alaska. He had wanted to take a cruise but I've gotten some really bad reviews on cruises. Maybe just a short trip to Glacier or Yellowstone for a few hikes and camping might be fun! Who knows what we'll decide. Well I have lots of housework to catch up on, so TTFN!
Here's the hubby's recipe for cabbage. I never liked cabbage until I tried this recipe...it is soooooo good! Give it a try!! 5-6 slices of bacon 1 medium onion chopped 3-4 cloves of garlic chopped fine 2 tablespoons of white vinegar 1 can chicken broth 1 head cabbage sliced salt/pepper
1. Dice bacon and fry in large pan 2. Add chopped onion and garlic to bacon and bacon grease. Sautee till tender 3. Add chicken broth, vinegar, salt, pepper and mix well 4. Add cabbage, reduce heat, cover, cook till tender.
Yum!!
Nothing much exciting to report today so far. The weather is great, sunny 60 degrees, so I cleaned out the gardens. We have garlic, onions, strawberries and tulips coming up! The asparagus is thinking about it. TTFN!
We're finally seeing some spring weather!! It's sunny, few clouds in the sky and about 50 degrees. FINALLY!!! The birds are going crazy today, I just love it! We have Stellar Jays, that are beautiful, but very noisy and piggy!! They will go through a bag of peanuts in no time!! We also have Grossbeaks, Swallows, Pine Siskins, and Chickadees. I'm waiting for the hummingbirds to arrive any time. That is our favorite part! We hang out the feeders, with our own solution (none of that red stuff) and sometimes we can have as many as 30 hummingbirds on our porch at a time. I will try to catch pictures this year, but they are very fast!! I've already posted our ducks, except for the geese.........they have arrived also. It's one of the things I really love here, all of the wildlife. The deer come everyday for a little corn, you ALWAYS hear birds chirping, and our pond is full of ducks and fish!! Ok, I'm starting to sound like a fairy tale with birds singing and rabbits hopping by.........geez. Oh we do have rabbits too, but I rarely see them for some reason. There are also squirrels who steal the peanuts and Grey Jays, which we call camp robbers here.
I've been playing with EBSQ today, see if I can put some of my B&W's on there. I found some beautiful art on that site, I have to thank Laura and Troy for the lead!! I've always been into art, way back into little weehood, but never fully followed it. I was always the drawer, even took art classes. I enjoyed painting but just couldn't get inspiration. The camera finally landed in my hand and that was it! I'm very obsessed with my camera and carry it everywhere. Even to the mailbox (our mailbox is almost a half mile from our house, so you never know what you'll see on the way!) I have a Canon 20D digital and an EOS Elan 7 SLR, with a Sigma lens 200-300, and a Tamron 200-500 di lens. I recently purchased a fish eye and wide angle lenses that I haven't gotten to really play with yet, can't wait!
The respiratory infection is still running amuck in our house. Grizzly and Moose are feeling better, but it has now moved on to a few more. Critter has the worst of it right now,he's my youngest ( I think there is a picture of him on this blog somewhere) It is just so sad to see these little pitiful sneezy drainy faces!! My Doc hubby just says to be patient, it will run it's course...yeah, tell that to the cats.. They look at me like I should be DOING something about this!
My hubby is an avid fly-fisherman. I am not. But, I love to go just to enjoy the outdoors and scenery. Unfortunately, the weather was not willing. BUT, this does not bother hubby. He doesn't care how cold or wet it is.
It's about 40 today. It's raining. It's cold. I decided (lost my senses for a moment) to take the dogs. Taylor is a good dog. She stays with us, she's quiet, I don't have to worry about her. BROCK on the other hand, has given me most of my grey hair. I tried tying his very long leash to a tree, he just got tangled and nearly strangled himself. I decided since nobody else was foolish enough to be out today, to let Brock run loose. Like I said, I lost my sanity for a moment.
He ran around like a total fool. I don't have children, but I can imagine it would be like releasing about 5 four year olds, free to run around a campsite/lake area with one person watching them. I was constantly calling him to come back, telling him to drop whatever was in his mouth, telling him to stop barking at every bird, boat, car that went by. He kept jumping in the lake and then coming to me to shake it off. Geez Loweez, I thought I was going to scream!!!
Besides all of this, hubby is fishing/ cooking/ ignoring the fact that I'm about to kill a dog. It's also cold & wet (did I mention that already)? So.........I finally put Brock in the car. He still continues to bark in the car, but at least it's not half as annoying. Hubby has cooked a meal, that he is very proud of, over a campfire. We sit down to eat as we are shivering from the cold. **I know to some people that 40's is not that cold, I agree, but if you add clouds, wind and light rain, it is cold** So while he's obliviously enjoying his fishing trip, I'm frazzled and frustrated. **Oh and this is the 3rd time that we have done a trip like this where we are shivering while eating** I keep asking myself why I keep agreeing? I guess because it makes hubby happy, and that's important. Especially with the month he has had.
Oh and no fish were caught. And, we do release them, no cooking them. Or, we put them in our pond at home. I just can't bring myself to cook something I spent time with.
Okay, dinner is ready...just thought I'd share my day. I do have pictures, will add them later.
Here's my cookie recipe from Alton Brown's Good Eats. He also has a Chewy version and a Thin version, but the puffy are my favorite!! I usually check them at 11 and 12 minutes so they don't get too brown on the bottom! ***Oh and I use the Chocolate/Peanut butter chips***
Puffy Cookies
1 cup butter-flavored shortening 3/4 cup sugar 1 cup brown sugar 2 1/4 cups cake flour 1 teaspoon kosher salt 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder 2 eggs 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract *2 cups semisweet chocolate chips Hardware: Ice cream scooper (#20 disher, to be exact) Parchment paper Baking sheets Mixer Heat oven to 375 degrees F. Combine the shortening, sugar, and brown sugar in the mixer's work bowl, and cream until light and fluffy. In the meantime, sift together the cake flour, salt, and baking powder and set aside. Add the eggs 1 at a time to the creamed mixture. Then add vanilla. Increase the speed until thoroughly incorporated. With the mixer set to low, slowly add the dry ingredients to the shortening and combine well. Stir in the chocolate chips. Chill the dough. Scoop onto parchment-lined baking sheets, 6 per sheet. Bake for 13 minutes or until golden brown and puffy, checking the cookies after 5 minutes. Rotate the baking sheet for even browning. Cool and store in an airtight-container.

I've been such a bum so far today! It's cold and wet outside. Most of the zoo here is sick. I'm hanging out in sweats and a really bad hair-do, watching Drew Carey. Oh lordy, someone save me. I never did get to making those cookies, maybe i'll do that.
I don't think Blogger is updating my site. Plus, does anyone know why it's double spacing my "Favorite Blogs"? I can't figure it out.
Oh and I killed my phone. I was filling the GALLON water dish for Brock and forgot about it, it ran over the counter and murdered my phone. Oh well, I hardly ever answer it anyway.
