Captive
Well, so much for moving my blog and blogging more, eh?
Not really much to blog about lately. I still don't think we've reached 40 degrees in who knows how long. Just as we reach about 36 and things start to melt, we go down to the 20's at night, it snows and everything refreezes. This is that time of year where I'm ready for green and flowers and start gardening. I have quite awhile though.
Nothing much else new. I've made myself leave the house almost daily to look for wildlife shots. I've found eagles almost daily if I drive along the hwy. Unfortunately, we have so much roadkill from all the snow and the deer forced to remain close to the streets. But, it does give me the eagle photos. The grey skies don't help, but I still get out.
I decided to make a couple of bound photo books to put down at the store. Only thing is, they're not cheap to make, so not so cheap to sell either. Not sure if someone would pay that much for a local photo book, but I guess you never know. I'm going to try it anyway.
I'm hoping to go to Chicago in September. Anyone wanna housesit? Ellen?? I had an option to try to go to Phoenix in March, but it's not going to happen, so I'm shooting for Chicago. We still have that NY trip on hold also, which I'm dying to go.
After seeing Shephard's photos of Paris, I think I want to go there too. Of course this is all daydreaming since I can never seem to get out of here.
What else? That might just be it.

I love these train shots! What were your ISO and aperture settings? I've got to shoot some indoor dance photos this weekend. I pray that I learned something useful in photography class.

I Fought The Law
So...
a couple of days ago, we jumped into the car to run to a little town store about 10 minutes away. Being that it was a short trip and the weather was kind of crummy and snowy, I only grabbed one camera with one lens. The wide angle.
As we're coming back from the store, we pass an area where there's the river and the train tracks. There were eagles EVERYWHERE. Apparently something had been hit by the train, which I couldn't see, and the birds were all over it. And me?... yeah, wrong lens. I needed the 500mm and I didn't have it. Of course. I always take that lens with me in case I see eagles and this day, nope. I couldn't believe the eagles flying around. I bet there were at least 10.
I tried to capture them with the lens I had, but it wasn't even worth it.
I decided to drive home and get the 500mm and head back. Of course getting back there were no eagles. I went up and down the road for a bit, but nothing. The law.
I was headed back to go home when I did happen to see two. I got a couple of shots off when a train came (I'll post that shot next, it's pretty cool) and scared them away. I waited for a while but then never came back. I was so bummed :(
The next day was very full as we had to head into town for several things. When we got home I decided to grab the bag and ALL of my lenses and head back out to that spot. The first trip though, nothing. I was grumbling under my voice how if figures that when I'm prepared, have the right lenses, have roads I can pull over on AND it wasn't snowing.... no eagles.
I decided to just hang around for awhile going up and down this road. Last time back through, as I was heading home, they arrived.
A few get skittish, especially the bald eagles, so I have to be quick with them. The Goldens and the Juveniles usually think about it for awhile before flying away, so I can usually get a few shots in.
While I was photographing a few by the water, I kept hearing a noise behind me. I'd turn around but couldn't see anything. This went on for about 15 minutes or so. After the eagles had flown away, I was walking back to my car when I heard the noise again. I finally saw him. Third photo down.
He was just watching me. He didn't care I was there, he never moved, I took TONS of photos of him. He was gorgeous. The colors outside and the weather didn't help to see how pretty he really was, but I was excited. Be damned Leesa's Law :)
I'll be going back often :)

1. I've been sick as a dog for three days. Not dying sick, but just flu-like miserable sick.
2. So I wonder where "sick as a dog" came from? I've seen sicker dogs.
3. Which of course I get sick after everyone leaves. The Law.
4. This flu has made me a little loopy. You should see me try to walk in the snow. You won't.
5. We still haven't reached 40 degrees in I don't know how long.
6. I still have a pet turkey.
7. I have two of the biggest pig squirrels I have ever seen. They even bitch at me when their feeder is empty.
8. I have one flying squirrel that shows up at night. He doesn't complain.
9. I'm trying to type while lying down.... not too bad.
10. Nyquil doesn't work on me like it used too, although I wouldn't recommend loading a wood stove while on the stuff.
11. Drifter tried to chase a raven today. A flying raven. Umm okay.
12. I could really go for some gatorade and maybe some soup. But that would call for me leaving the house. Where's my sister?
13. I swear that Marble was put in time-out today. Get this...
I go to feed horses. Sam (boy) and Carmel (momma) are in the barn. Marble (baby) was outside the barn with only her head poking around the corner. I threw their hay in, Carmel and Sam come to eat, but no Marble. I call her, she looks at me, but doesn't move. As soon as she decides to move Carmel gives her a look and puts her ears back. Marble stays put. This happened twice. I finally gave up and carried her food out to her.
I guess she was in trouble.

I decided to just change the URL and take my blog off the search engines. Hopefully that will work. This way I'm still on your readers and no one has to sign in :)
Nothing major, but I'm pretty sure someone living close to me is reading. I've blogged about a certain neighbor before, and I'm just not comfortable having him reading. My blog was pretty easy to find before, hopefully not so much. We'll see. I guess that's what Statcounter is for :)
