The Canon Wins

There have been little stories here and there throughout the week that I thought about blogging about. Once I get home and sit down, it doesn't seem so interesting to me anymore.
Although, I do have one that has stuck with me and we still laugh about so I thought I'd share it.

Last week we went to Kootenai Falls for the hike and the swinging bridge. Seems to be a yearly thing. It's a beautiful spot and it's a fun trip. This trip though I really didn't think about the shoes I was wearing.
It does have some rocky trails to follow and it can tend to be a bit sandy. I was wearing converse which don't have the best traction. No biggie.. I just walked slower, plus I was carrying my canon, so I'm careful.

We were walking along the trail, my sis was next to me and the hubs was up ahead with the dog, and I fell. Yep.. tripped right over a rock, me and the camera went tumbling. And yeah, it hurt. I was injured. Funny thing though, and a surprise, I didn't think of the camera. I was thinking of my ankle that didn't want to work and the wrist I landed on. I survived and yeah it's still bruised and a little swollen, but.. the best part is after I fell, my sister went for the camera. Her automatic response was to save the camera.
At first she felt bad, then we laughed. I told her it wasn't odd at all for someone to think of the item that's that expensive.. and yeah it did get a little scuffed and dirty, but works fine.

Me on the other hand, limped for days and still have a big ol' bruise and swelling.

Nope.. no pictures. :P

Hay Day

Yesterday was hay day. Because of some problems last minute, I wound up with no trailer and no help to get hay.
This is where the small town hospitality kicks in and you gotta love it.

A guy who just moved here a few months ago called because he heard we needed help loading hay. We then told him our problems and he wound up finding several boys and a trailer to get our hay.
With Amy's help everything was handled and we have hay.

They all showed up about 4pm and started working until after 11pm. At one point they even had a flat on the flatbed and had to unload all of the hay onto another trailer.

I hadn't met one boy before that day. They were glad to help.

Impressive.

p.s. This is only one load of 4.

Knock-Knock

Check out this little visitor I had on my screen door last night. He's about 2inches long and had these wild antennae. This morning he's still there but they're closed.
I figure it's some kind of beetle but couldn't find anything like it online last night.
There were about 4 of them out there and I've never seen them before.

Pretty wild.

We went out to Kootenai Falls yesterday. Not sure why I don't go out there more often, it's such a pretty spot. Perfect Montana weather also. I didn't really take any scenic shots since I could go back and post last years shots and they'd look exactly the same. Instead it was mainly shots of the child. I hear the water was freezing :)

Okay..Okay..

Okay well.. since the reception is not good out here in the sticks, I can't get the photos off the cell phone just yet. But, I won't make you wait...

First things first.. I dedicate the post and meeting to Stacy the PQ :)

So..
I'm in Wally World yesterday, standing in line by myself. The hubs and the sister were off in different parts of the store.
I notice the guy in front of me has a buttload of groceries and had actually walked off to get some more.
So, we were sitting waiting for him to come back. BTW.. lots and lots of junk food.
He came back with tons of eggs, apologized for me waiting and set his food on the conveyer belt.
He then looked at me and apologized for taking so long and having so many groceries. That he purposely came in that early (8-ish) to avoid the crowds. I told him "no biggie"... that's why we came that early too. Then..
I realized WHO I was talking too.

So.. the next conversation went like this :

sis walks up...
Me--Do you know who 'blank-blank' is?
sis.. umm.. no, not really.
Me--sigh.

hubs walks up...
Me--Do you know who 'blank blank' is?
hubs.. yeah.
Me--That's him in front of us.
hubs--naww..that's not him.
Me--Yep.. look at him straight on.
hubs--oh wow.. hey, maybe it is.

So.. we watched him for a bit, bag his groceries etc, and then he smiled and left.

My sis walked up to the cashier and asked and she said , "yes, that's him".. his brother lives in this town and he's moved up in the area too"...eeks.

So.. come to find out later, he actually lives in the next town over from me and has horses and frequents a nearby bar & grill. So.. kinda cool thing last night, hubs son gave his business card to him.

So yeah.. photo below of the man I spoke to *briefly*... :)

I have to say he blended in pretty well and no one bothered him, especially me. I wouldn't even let sis go up and say anything to him. But.. she did snap a couple of cell-phone photos while he was bagging his groceries.

Oh and I won't really give away any towns or names since obviously he doesn't want people finding him up here.















**Oh and Stacy.. I had a restaurant employee tell me if I get a pic of him printed up, and they see him again, they'll get you an autograph :)**

Suspense

So I met, well okay so I only spoke to him briefly, a pretty big cool celebrity today at Wally world.
Come to find out he actually lives in the next town over AND... needs a vet. Oh yeah.. it was cool.

I'm not tellin ya until I can post the photos :)

Just Yesterday

Lawn Yawn

This weeks moon. Tends to look like all the other pics I've posted of the moon.

Not a whole lot new around here. I've taken new interest in the outside of our house this year, not sure why.
I had let the garden really go and it just looked awful, so I spent two days cleaning it out. Lots of weeds and wheelbarrow action..even the shovel had to make an appearance a few times. My body sure felt it last night.
I've had a small obsession with the lawn too, and specifically keeping it watered and mowed. This is all a new fascination, not sure why. Maybe not being on the computer so much has sent my interests somewhere else.

The deer have eaten so many of my flowers it's sad. I've even replaced some with "deer resistant" plants, and they were still eaten.
I've seen a few fawns, one momma with twins and another momma with one, but they only show up early morning or late evening, so no good photos.
Maybe soon :)

Daily Excitement

I've got nuthin'.
Still have the raccoons, two different families actually.
Still have bear, although not daily and I see the same one most of the time.
The deer are eating my flowers.
The garden is coming along okay, considering that rainy beginning of spring.
The temps went down to 45 degrees last night.. I was freezing when I woke up. Crazy considering I now have the AC on.

That's about it :)

Did You Say Fire???

Details, Details

I guess I didn't give very good details, eh?

So last year we cleared out some property to have more horse pasture. This is just down the driveway from the house. A huge burn pile had been built up to burn.
You might remember the coyote den I posted this winter? Same pile.

So they started burning the pile in late April. It burned for a week or so and then we were hit with all the rain. Days and days of rain put it out, or so we thought. It hadn't burned or smoked in a couple of weeks.

So, as you know now, it had ignited itself Saturday morning. It was a sight for sure. Luckily I have good neighbors and an impressive volunteer fire department. I was really impressed how quickly they got here.
From what they say, tree trunks can hold the heat and fire for months and just spark whenever. So... the forestry department stayed until it was put out, used some kind of foam I guess. They even had heat sensors to measure any heat left.

We then found every hose I owned (five) and hooked them up all the way over to the fire and left a sprinkler on overnight. I turned it off this morning.

It was interesting how everyone showed up and the reactions. Fire sirens in our little town at 5am.. alerts EVERYONE. I'm sure I'm the talk of the town :)
We sat out and watched for several hours, and I even made coffee for the firefighters.

I guess the scariest moment for me was between the time of the call and them showing up. Thankfully it was cool outside and no wind. Ugh.. could have been scary then.

So there ya go, another installment in Leesa's Law.

Aftermath

The excitement is over. The fire is out and the area has been flattened and cleared out.
I actually think our little local volunteer fire department had fun.

Me not so much.

4:30 am.. neighbor calls.. we have fire.
4:35 am.. called another neighbor for help.
4:45 am.. called 911/fire department.
5:00 am.. fire department calls forestry service.
5:45 am.. see pic above.

They're all still here.
