Rinse & Repeat

Nothing much new here today.

I feel like I repeat myself in each post lately.

Yes, had bear last night.
No, nothing too troublesome.
Yes, they got into the cat pen again.
I think that's fixed now though.
Sinclair is better.
Trout is still icky.
Yes, still grey and rainy.

The laptop is being a pain today.
I tried to find a fun code to make bats fly over the screen for Halloween, but I'm White & Nerdy and can't figure it out.
That irritates me.

That's it for now.

Now.. Rinse and Repeat.

Floating Flowers

Today

Nothing & Something

Nothing happened last night. Nothing! No bear. No barking dogs. Nothing.
When I finally got to sleep that is.
I had my normal "what if's" of bear in the house, so my brain wouldn't shut off.
And...
Trout is very sick. As he sat in my lap with a high fever, runny eyes and chest congestion, all I could do was try to comfort him. He was miserable and would not leave my side. I gave him something to bring the fever down, and decided to turn on the humidifier. I swear you can hear him breathing across the room :(
Sinclair on the other hand is much better and wants Trout to play, so I have to keep her off him most of the time.

So...I actually slept last night. I think a full 7 hours!

It's grey and rainy here today. And I really wanted to go on a Stacie-photo-safari.
Want to see a soggy Montana?

Not Funny

Ok, so sometimes the bear antics are adventurous, sometimes amusing, sometimes annoying. This morning was just not funny.

As you know, the night before last they broke into the cat pen. There's nothing for them to really get into, and they can't enter the house from there. I hope.
As you also know, they attempted a few times to get into the cat door that's attached to the garage. I really have no worries there either since it's such a small hole and would take them forever to actually make a difference. By then I can replace the door.

But, of course, lying in bed last night I had a lot of "what if's" going through my head. The way it is set up now, there is a cat door in the window, nailed into wood, which is nailed into the window frame of a downstairs bedroom. This is how the cats are able to go in and out of the house. Safely.
As I was lying in bed last night though, I kept thinking... What if they got that cat window out? Then basically they could be in the house. Now, the room that this window goes too has a closed door with another cat door in it. So basically that's another door they would have to work through. Worth the effort? Who knows. But my brain would just not let go of the idea of a bear in the house and coming upstairs. ugh.

Anyway.. fast forward to about 6ish this morning. Brock is barking like crazy. Which isn't abnormal for him if the bear are lurking about the front yard, so I ignored him.
Until...
I realized he was downstairs. Why is Brock barking downstairs?? My heart starting racing just a little. I turned on all outside lights to see if I could see anything. Nothing.
I grabbed a flashlight and stepped out onto the back deck to see what I could see, keeping one foot inside the door. BTW it was snowing and I wasn't appropriately dressed. Then I could imagine them finding me, half dressed, flashlight in hand and bunny slippers.
Ok.. I really don't own bunny slippers :P

I try to peek down into the cat pen from upstairs and notice that the fence is once again torn open. I'm carefully trying to see if there's a bear IN the cat pen. Luckily no.
So I decide to trek downstairs. Brock is by my side, Taylor stayed in bed. Slacker.

I decide to let Brock out into the backyard. If anything that will scare a bear off.
But...
I get to the sliding glass door and notice that the gate to the backyard is open. Uh.. yeah.. the bear opened the gate to the fenced-in yard. Hmmm. Now what? My heart was really racing now. Do I let Brock out? Most likely Brock would run after a bear and the bear would take off or go up a tree. But, I have noticed lately that this is a momma and baby hanging out. Momma bears are scary. Would she turn around and kill him?
With all the outdoor lights on I was pretty sure the bear weren't around. So, I let Brock out, he ran around like a fool checking the yard, and then I closed the open gate. Whew.

Wide awake now. A couple of loose cats, but they came back.
I waited for daylight to do anything else.

I now have a fence to repair.

I really need a handyman.
And a stiff drink.

Figures

"So cool... Friday the 13th went by with no issues."

Heh... I spoke too soon.

So.. I'm sitting on the couch earlier today when I see two of my INDOOR ONLY cats, walking OUTSIDE of my house. Grrrreeaattt.

I walk through the house trying to figure out where they might have gotten out. Nothing.
I go outside to the cat pen where I see the chicken wire fencing had been ripped up from the ground up. Yep.. the bear tore into the cat pen. I'm not sure why, there's nothing in there but cat toys, beds and litter boxes. Luckily the two cats came back in. I "sort of" fixed the fence, at least where the cats can't get out. If the bear want back in it, they will be able to.

Thank goodness they can't fit through a cat door or they could have come in my house. Nice.

Pam and Ellen, be thankful. You would have never caught these two cats.

Animal House

So cool... Friday the 13th went by with no issues.

The bear are still showing up nightly, one even showed up during the day yesterday. He quickly ran off so all is good. One thing though... even though I've put everything away and there's not much for them to get into, just the presence of them sets off the dogs. So either way, I'm not getting much sleep.
I have a couple of windows cracked and I swear that Brock can smell them. Actually they do smell. They usually swim across the creek to get here, so they are wet and stinky.
They are actually really neat to watch, I wish Pam and Ellen could have seen more of them. I will try to get them on video someday for YouTubesday.

Sinclair is finally feeling better, just a sneeze now. Trout is worse. I have meds for his eye now, but it looks pretty icky. As always with cat respiratory infections, it gets worse before it gets better.

I guess Taylor has decided that 27 is too cold and barks at me to let her in.
Brock has decided that now he can put his head on the kitchen counter and take what's within reach. Oh and the horses have decided that they want their hay in ONE spot and ONE spot only. GEesh.

27 degrees this morning. The birds were sitting on the frozen birdbath when I came out. Do you think they were skating and stopped when I came out? Reminds of you of The Far Side doesn't it? The cows are standing up talking and suddenly one yells "CAR!" and they resume being grass eating cows. Eh.. guess you had to be there.

It looks like it's going to be beautiful here today.... I really should get out of this animal house.

Opinion

I have a question for ya.

How are you with first impressions? Is the first impression "it"?
If you get a bad one is that it, or do you give them another chance?

I used to be one that if I got a really bad first impression, it kind of killed it for me next time. But.. as I started wondering how I might be on first impression it changed my opinion.
I think sometimes because of my nerves and shyness, I might not always give off the best first impression. I need to warm up, so to speak.

See, you leave me alone for too long and I start thinkin'.

So... talk to me.

Thirteen

Heh... I was just about to tell you how uneventful last night was when I noticed that today is Friday the 13th. Sigh.

I think I'll wait :)

Speechless

I'm in awe.

Dear Diary

Wanna hear my day?

It actually started last night when the bear showed up at 1am. Two of them. I heard them on the back deck moving things around.
Wait..
Let me backtrack a bit. Yesterday, Hubs decided to completely clean off the back deck to deter the bear. He cleaned out the containers that hold recycling and different seeds and feed. I strongly recommended he take the containers too, since the bear WILL remember where they found the food last and will be back. He didn't see this necessary.

So...
Last night they come back. They are moving around the containers and making quite a bit of noise. The dogs are barking and the hubs is sleeping through all of this. I turn on the lights out back and make enough noise to shoo them away. But as the big guy was leaving I noticed he had something. He took it out into the yard, where the smaller one joined him and they sat there and messed with this thing for quite awhile. It was too dark to really tell what they had.

I was up for about another hour and they were still there. I give up, I go to bed.

I wake about 6:30, still curious what they had since the porch was supposed to be empty.
I peek out there and they are there! Same two? Who knows. But, still two bear messing with this item. I shower and start getting ready for the day and they eventually leave. I send hubs out to go see what they had.
They had an entire 10# bag of thistle seed. Seems he missed that one.
They also spilled it all along the deck and steps and to their final destination. I just finished cleaning that up.
I also moved all containers indoors and loaded all the feed into the garage, WHERE they had attempted AGAIN to get into the cat door. It's now scraping along the floor.

Trout's eye is worse, he's also sneezing now and Sinclair is trying to hack up a lung.
I think the animals were being nice to Pam and Ellen and behaved while they were here. They are now back to their usual antics.

I just unloaded 4 60# bags of feed from the truck since I can't leave it there anymore.
I'm tired.
That's not all, but this is long enough.

So what do you think....

Wine or Heineken tonight?
And is 3:00 too early to start?

Hubba

So I haven't done a Hubba post in quite awhile. Mainly because no one has really jumped out at me. Until...

Couple of weeks ago while in Seattle, John made me watch Lord of The Rings.
Ok, maybe he didn't make me. But, so many were shocked I hadn't seen it, I figured it was about time.
Then I saw Legolas. Wow.

Now, normally a guy with blonde hair, even long long blonde hair would never grab my attention, but he did. Orlando Bloom doesn't even really do anything for me. So is it the long hair? The pointy ears? The bow and arrow? I just don't know.

Everytime Legolas came onto the screen I was just struck. I don't even remember what happened during the movie when he came on. It really cracks me up since I rarely act like this over someone in the movies, but this boy is just too cute.
He would show up with his arrows and save the day... AND, he NEVER ran out of arrows! It was amazing!

Anyway...there's my Hubba. Of course now I need to see the next two. I actually bought the second one to watch on the plane but my batteries gave up on me.

So...You like?

Oh... and I liked the movie too ;)

Not Wordless

I can't seem to keep Wednesdays Wordless.

It was 26 degrees when I got up this morning. I've already stocked wood on the upper deck so I can build a fire in the upstairs fireplace if needed. The woodstove is going. The birdbaths and kitty water bowls are frozen. Ahh... I love winter :)

Trout is now sneezing and seems to have some kind of eye boo-boo.
No bear last night that I can see.
Bush is on TV behind me and just said "Nucular". :P
I still have many butterfly pics as ya'll can see. I try to post one every now and then as not to bore you.

I'm definitely making more travel plans. I don't know when or where. I'd love to drive to some of the places on my own. Which is HUGE for me.
I'm looking into some new lenses. I want to get out and photograph more. Put more effort into it besides cats, dogs and bear.

Hubs has decided he's going to start taking the laptop to CA. How can I blog on the couch and in bed without the laptop?
Looks like I'll be in the market for a new one ;)

Oh and I've got cute cute mailart from Marianna. I need to post that.
Get ready, you'll be shocked....
It has kitties on it :P
