Do Ya Feel It?

So another day of being soaking wet in freezing temps.

Don't ask.

I'm still cold.
My whole body hurts.
I'm ready for bed and it's not even 6:00.
But I do have beer sitting out in the snow.

See.. everything has a happy ending :)

It's Snowing......Just a Little Bit

Double Trouble

The Usual Crowd

Snowed about 5 more inches last night and still going pretty strong. We have a new buck hanging out. Well, big buck.. we have lots of younger bucks :)
Temps are back up to at least the 20's.. so that's better.
I did get some decorating done yesterday.. inside and out. Now I just need my tree :)

It's Beginning To Look Alot Like . . . .

Naw... back to decorating.

The finest qualities of our nature, like the bloom on fruits, can be preserved only by the most delicate handling.
Yet we do not treat ourselves nor one another thus tenderly.

~ Henry David Thoreau

I blogged recently about the loss of a close friend in a car accident. The memorial was yesterday, even though neither of us could attend due to location and scheduling. I did hear it was a packed house, which isn't surprising in the least. He was a great man, a veterinarian also, and a family man.
Since hubs couldn't make the memorial, which has been hard I'm sure, he offered his services to help the hospital that his friend owned. It will take him away most of December and the Christmas holidays, but I know this is how he felt he could contribute.

A little good news did come out of this today though.
When our friend (and I don't want to mention names because of searches, etc) was killed in the accident, he had his two dogs with him. These were his treasures and loved him more than a pet can love a human and vice versa. I don't have the right words here to describe how in an odd kind of way, it almost seemed right that they were together. But...

We found out today that the dogs were not in the car. They were found wandering the neighborhood couple days later. Wow. Can it be explained? I don't know. But, the family has the dogs back and it brings a little happiness into their lives and a little bit of our friend too.

Grumpy Face

Life

This buck has been hanging out the last couple of days. They extended hunting season a couple of weeks, I guess he feels safe here. He's really beautiful and today I was lucky enough to have a little sunlight. I smile when I see these big pretty bucks... his life was spared this time.

We lost a friend two days ago in a car accident. I wasn't as close to him as hubs was, but I sure have felt the loss. I've never had a loss this close and it really has thrown me off a bit. I guess there really isn't much more to say about it here. Just different emotions and feelings I've never had before. Life gone so quickly.

I hear we have more snow coming and lower temps again. The frozen pipe has been repaired for now.. let's keep our fingers crossed it stays that way :)

Selling Me

I'm working on a website where I can sell my images. This one will be much easier than my Wildvizionz site in that I don't have to mat, frame, or ship them myself.

I'm still working on it, still adding, check it out. Any suggestions? Any requests?

You say Cold, I say COLD

So, where was I?

The pump that provides water for the horse tank is frozen. As you know from yesterday, I tried hooking a (frozen) hose to the pump. When I turned on the hose, once the water hit the frozen hose it exploded. All.over.me.
I called a neighbor for help trying to unhook the pump. No luck.
He recommended getting a heater, or heat tape and thawing the pump. Hmm..ok..I can do that.
But..BTW (as he's walking away)... there's a chance you could crack the pump. In that case you'll have to turn off all the main water and get it fixed.
Hmm.. Me. Leesa's Law. Weekend. Freezing weather. No water? No way. Forget it.

New plan...

Soooo, my idea was to hook a hose up to another pump and bring it around, through and under the wall of the barn to fill the tank.
The hoses hang in the garage.
It's 17 outside. (13 when I got up)
The hoses were frozen.
So, I hauled the hose into the garage office to thaw. I then found a large container, carried it out to the horse yard and fill it up.
I of course had to fill up a bucket and carry it over and dump it in. A large pickle bucket. Heavy when full of water. It took about 6 buckets. My shoes and gloves were getting wet of course with the walk to the container.
Yeah it was cold, but of course I lived. I dried off and warmed up.

This morning, I retrieved the thawed hose. Hooked it up to a new pump, walked it over to the barn, pushed it up under the wall and turned it on. It's a bit of walk back around and into the barn to put the hose in the tank. I walked all the way around to find that the hose was kinked. heh.
Back around again, unkink the hose and back around again.

Hose is running. Put in tank. Find heater. Find extension cord. Hook everything up. Hose is taking FOREVER to fill horse tank, so I decide to feed everyone and come back. When I come back, the hose had fallen out of the tank and was flooding the barn and slowly turning to ice.
(I think the horses always wanted an ice rink)
I then put it back in.. dry shoes now soaked, frozen toes. Had to wait with it so it would fill. Still cold toes.

Tank fills. Walk around barn again, turn off hose. Pull hose out of barn. Already starting to freeze so it's really stiff and hard to haul around. Trip many times while walking with it. Go to unhook it from the working pump. Frozen.
Give up. Go inside, warm up, change shoes, have a diet coke and wait for it to warm up some and try again.
The warmest it got today was 27. I found some better gloves, went outside and tried again. yay. Hauled hose back to garage to thaw again.

Beer-Thirty :)

Oh and the container I filled? The one I hauled 6 heavy water filled buckets so they would have water? They never touched it. Frozen solid.

New Definition of Cold

Wanna hear my definition of cold?

Standing outside in 17 degree temps, trying to open the frozen water pump to fill the horses water tank, only to have it explode all over you.

Yeah... soaking wet--outside--17 degrees.

I love my job, I love my job, I love my job.
